Last weekend we went to sulphur to visit my dad's side parents, Grandma and Papa Shinn. They are the best! They've been there for me and my brother through thick and thin. We used to live across the street from them and then 8 (ish) years ago we moved to Norman. About 2 years ago their house was hit by a tornado and they moved to their lake house in Sulphur.
Anyway here's how the visit was...
We met my brother and sister in law at their house as soon as we got off work and carpooled together. TJ never gets lost, so the ride there was fine. I hadn't been to their lake house in years! It was nice to see it all done. (Papa built it himself). We were starving and Grandma made us a ton of food; chicken wings, brisket, mac & cheese, salad, rolls, key lime pie, brownies, and peach cobbler. We sat and visited and watched the Olympics together. I don't even remember the last I spent the night at their house but it always brings fond memories and this was no different, except that I got to experience it with my husband and let him in on how it was growing up with Grandma and Papa.
We went to bed and it was interesting sleeping on a full size bed again. I think me and John both almost rolled off the bed a couple of times. John and TJ (brother) woke up at 6am and went fishing and the poor guys didn't catch anything. Probably to hot already for the fishies.
Papa made us french toast and homemade syrup! He made a whole loaf of bread and I felt bad for eating only 2 so I stuffed my self with 4! I hadn't ate that much food in a LONG time! We then went to the Chickasaw Cultural Center and it was very interesting. Learned a lot about the cultural. John and I both have a little bit of Native American in us. He is Creek and I think I'm Cherokee (that's what grandma thinks anyway). It was cool to go and learn something new.
After that we drove around the town of sulphur and then ate leftovers for lunch and visited.
It was so good seeing them and I think we made their weekend going and visiting them.
We had so much fun that weekend as well. I'm so glad we all got to visit them together!
