Our First Home

I know I've said many times how much I hated the apartment in Norman, but it was our first home. We celebrated our first Christmas there, our first valentine's day, our first wedding anniversary. There are so many good memories in that little place.
I am, though, excited for this new season of our life and what it may bring. New job, new city, new apartment. I know that God has something good planned because everything to get us here happened easily. John got the job he wanted and I got the apartment, on the 1st floor and with washer and dryer, that I had wanted.
I miss being closer to family, friends, and work but I'm excited to see what's next for us!

April

Another crazy month has come and gone and I didn't write a thing. This month was nuts and I'm thankful its almost done!

We moved to OKC the beginning of April. I love our new apartment! It doesn't smell like weed (because of neighbors), the neighbors are quiet, and maintence is fast! BUT I have been to the norman apartment 2-3 times a week cleaning or moving crap out and I'm tired of that place! I'm ready to turn in my keys and hopefully get most of our deposit back!

TJ, Kelly, and I took Emily to see Jurassic Park! She'd never seen it before and with it out in theaters, we thought it would be fun to go. She loved it! I was a little worried it would scare her and every now and then I would lean over and ask her if she was okay. After the movie she said "That was awesome, but I don't think I'll be going to a museum any time soon!" Lol!

I decorated the apt on John's last day at his old job.
John started his new job! So far so good! He's in training for 4 weeks and enjoying it so far. It seems like a great place to work.

We got new phones! I know this isn't interesting but my phone is frickin' cool! I finally got instagram! You can follow me at mrsgorton.

Me and Kelly before we left to go to the ballet.
I checked off a bucket list item. Me and my sister in law went to see Swan Lake! As a former dancer, I've always wanted to  see this ballet! It was just beautiful. The foot work, the dancers, the scenes, just all of it. Absolutely Beautiful.

We had a garage sale. John and I had a ton of clothes that we needed to get rid of and it was name brand, well taken care of stuff and I didn't want to just donate it. So me, mom, and Emily had a sale. We made pretty good money but still had a few boxes for Goodwill to come pick up. I did keep the dance clothes, so if anyone knows a dancer that needs new leotards or shorts let me know!

I'm ready for May! I'm starting it off right by seeing Iron Man 3 on May 5! I run a 5k (I'm gonna die), turn 26 (eek!), and lots more! Hopefully things won't be to crazy and I'll get to clue you in on what's going on with The Gortons!

Ramblings

Tonight we were just talking about our favorite smells and I had never gave it any thought before.
Here's the ones I could think of;
  • Before and during rain.
  • The MGM Grand Casino- I don't know why but it always smelled good! I'll probably stay there next time.
  • The heat being turned on for the first time.
  • The AC being turned on in my car.
  • John- Even without smelly good stuff on, this kid smells good!
  • Books- New or old.
  • New things- New clothes, shoes, cars, babies. New things always smell good.
  • Leather
  • Mom's bed- I loved taking naps in her bed. Her pillows always smelled good.
I guess my favorite smells are associated with some of my favorite memories. My honeymoon, hugging my husband, sunday mornings laying in bed with mom talking.

Its small things, like smells, that can trigger happy memories.

Last Weeks in Norman

We are moving to the big oklahoma city in a couple of weeks. I'm nervous but excited for our new adventure.
We are saying farewell to all of our favorite, only in Norman, restaurants. I'm sure we'll be down here to eat them just not as often as we'd like.
  • Top Dog Coneys
  • Fuzzy's Taco Stand
  • Classic 50's
  • Victoria's
  • Gaberino's
  • Pizza Shuttle

Possibly The Worst Week of My Life

This week was so hard.
First of all, let me just say being sick, disappointed in not getting a house, and stressed about job hunting was not helping.
Wednesday I get a phone call that my cousin's husband was in a wreck and killed. He was only 22. My cousin is a widow at 20. They weren't even married for a year yet. I was ( and still) completely heart broken for her. They have a daughter, who looks just like her daddy, that will never know him. I call my aunt and I can hear my cousin just sob in the back ground. I just can't even imagine what she is going through. I can't imagine a life with out my husband.
Friday my sister calls me at work and she doesn't feel good. I'm like "Uh I need to call my mom because I don't know what to do" So I call my mom and she says that she'll go pick Em up from school. 20 mins later Mom calls me panicking because she's been in a car wreck! I FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!! My brother goes and gets my mom and now I've got to pick up Emily. I immediately call my boss (who knows about everything that's gone on this week) and say "I need to go now. My mom was in a wreck, my sister is at school sick. I need to go." Luckily she's awesome and she says "Go! I'll be up there to answer the phones." I'm balling! Crying my eyes out because my cousin just died from a car wreck. I call my husband and he says "You have to calm down or you're going to scare your sister." I calm down long enough to drive and get sis. I tell her "Moms been in a wreck". I see the tears start and say " BUT SHE'S OKAY! I promise!" The first thing that she says as soon as she knows mom is okay " But we just got that car! People at church raised money for us so we could have a nice car." I'm beyond thankful that God kept my mother safe. I couldn't handle losing her. Now I pray that the insurance will move quickly and that God will provide Mom with another perfect car for her.
BUT this was the straw that brought the camel's back. While Em was in bed and mom was on her way home all I did was cry, like ugly loud sobs. Grandma Alice texted me asking if everything was okay. I called her and spilled my guts of everything that was bothering me lately. I'm pretty sure she couldn't understand me at some points but it was nice to cry and let it all go.
When mom got home I ran and hugged her and was so grateful she was home safe and sound.
Saturday was one hell of a roller coaster day (I had a funeral AND a wedding to go to). I had to go to my cousin's husband's funeral. It was packed! People were standing in the back and the sides of the church and sitting in the choir chairs on the stage. It was heart breaking to hear my cousin sobbing on the other side of the church. When we did the recession line, I was fine until I saw her and then I started doing my ugly crying thing. All week all I've wanted to do is run up to her and hug her and hold her tight. I've kept my distance because if it was me I know I'd just want to be left alone.
Me and my sister in law were talking at the funeral and she said "I'm prepared for Tj to tell me my parents or grand parents are gone but I'm not prepared for someone to ever tell me that my husband is dead." I feel the same way. Last night I held my husband all night long. I didn't want to let him go. I didn't want him out  of my sight. The last few weeks, life has taken its toll on us and after this week all I want to do is be with him. I'll never know when I'll get that  call that says he won't be coming home anymore.
Kiss your loved ones good night and good bye because you'll never know if they'll wake up or come home.

Pray Request
  • Please keep my cousin and her daughter in your prayers. That God will just wrap his arms around them both and let he know she is loved and protected.
  • Please pray the insurance will move quickly and easily for my mom and that she will find the perfect car again.

Valentine's Day

Well this years valentine's was a bit of a bust.
Last year my husband pulled out all the stops. Flowers, cupcake, gift card to get my nails done, and cleaned the house. This year I wanted to do something special for him since we weren't getting each other anything.
Part 1: Valentine's Day
He always cooks so I thought for valentine's day I would cook. It was disaster. I think I got to ambitious with the recipe. I'm not a very cook any way and to pick something hard to cook was a bad idea. I was going to try to make Chicken Rollatini ( its like lasagna rolls but chicken instead of noodles). I got the wrong chicken first of all. It was to thick to roll so it ended up being stuffed chicken. Then I cooked it and it wasn't done. I throw it back in the oven for another 25 minutes and its finally done. Its 7 o'clock before we get to eat and its bad. I don't know if I didn't use enough seasoning but it just wasn't good. Luckily I knew this would happen so I picked up La Baguette for dessert.
We had a glass of wine and laughed about the whole thing. Unfortunately I hadn't ate much that day and ended up getting drunk with my one glass of wine and falling asleep at 8:30.
I felt so bad. John was really sweet about it all and just said "Lets go out to eat next year."
Oh and even though we said no gifts this year he had flowers delivered to my work. The day after valentine's day I went and picked up a case of beer and the new 007 movie I was so lame on valentine's day.
Part 2: Valentine's Date (This one went better)
We never go out on valentine's day just because its busy every where!
We made our christmas movie and restaurant gift cards last till feb 16 so we ended up not spending a lot! We went to Charleston's for dinner and we saw our first IMAX movie; A Good Day To Die Hard.
The imax theater is really cool but the movie was just okay. I'm not saying this because I'm a girl. I love action movies, especially Die Hard or Bruce Willis movies but this wasn't his best. And can I just say Bruce Willis is a good looking man! I know he's like my dad's age but he's hot.
Any who... It was a good Valentine's Day. It will be a good story to tell our kids one day.
